Movie - Halloween

There's no cinema section so Library it is. :)

I've just watched the movie 'Halloween' for the first time.

If you don't know the story, it's about a young guy who kills a woman by stabbing her many times. He seems to have no remorse, regret or fear after the killing. It's clear that he, under arrest and subject to psychiatric reports, could put on an innocent, plausible face that fooled most people. He is clearly insane and probably a psychopath. He certainly shows the usual clinical signs, including the ability to fool some people into believing that he is normal.

He gets his just desserts and is jailed for many years. In prison, he develops a liking for masks and makes them from papier mache (a French term not much used these days). This is probably another indication of his ability to put on a 'face' whilst, within his sick and deranged mind, being unable and unwilling to genuinely connect with humanity in a healthy way.

He escapes from prison and goes on a killing spree. The knife is again much in evidence and so is the mask that hides his true self. He's not into cutting throats but there's a lot of strangling, hanging and neck breaking.

It's a sick story and one which I relate with reluctance but it's as well to know what some people are capable of. There are such creatures on the loose. He finally got what was coming to him - and from a source that he least expected! Bravo!

I have never seen this movie. I don't usually enjoy horror movies but your review has made it sound worth watching. It's an old film, isn't it? Do you know if the DVD is available in Korat?
Please forgive me for I don’t know what I’m saying and therefore when I’ve finished saying it.

It was on True last evening. It may be repeated in the usual way or it may have been a one off for 31st October.

I've just looked on Amazon and only just realised how many Halloween movies there are! I seem to have been watching Halloween as released in 2007. Amazon sell it for £4.95 as Halloween (DVD) (2007), showing an image with the title Halloween Uncut (ironic!).

Amazon sell all of the series for very little money. If you want to order and don't have an account with Amazon, I can do it for you. Just PM me.

I'm not into violent movies either. We switched on the tv just after the opening titles had finished running and I left it on because it was Halloween and many evening movies on True seem to be violent anyway. What impressed me was that it made some attempt, small perhaps, to consider the mind of the psychopath. That at least made it more interesting than many other violent movies. There are better Hollywood studies of this mental sickness, I suppose. Of course, a serious study of mental illness would not be done using movies. Even the internet is a better educator!
