IT problems and advice in Thailand. Useful internet links for farang in Thailand

Another Forum Down!

Another community forum has been closed after a threat of legal action by a person who offers advice to the public that he is neither qualified nor legally permitted in Thailand to give.

Why on earth has this happened again? Quite simply, the Killer Queen believes that he can say or do anything he wishes and yet has the entitlement to threaten people who speak against him or merely write about him. Threats to sue ...

Declining freedom of speech on the Internet

There seems to be a downward trend recently and more and more people are falling foul of what they post/tweet or whatever. There seems to be a few current examples that can be drawn on.....

Megaupload file-sharing site closed down

This is a major download/upload site for finding movies/TV shows/computer apps/music for free, charges money for larger files and download it quickly, and looks like the US fascist Internet squad have nailed it.

I use sites like this and find them cool, bunch of killjoys imo.

Hope Fileserve/Filesonic etc aren't next.

Cheeky Sod!

We had a house guest for a few days. On the first evening, he returned to our home, sat next to me on the verandah, picked up one of my cold beers and said, 'I couldn't find the on switch to your computer this morning'.

'Cheeky sod', I thought but answered, 'So that's why the keyboard drawer was out when I came home. You won't find the switch, the mouse and keyboard are wireless and ...

DVD format problems/issues

Hi folks,
Must say, that these days when downloading from sites that have movies and TV shows, it seems that many are MKV etc files which are not very compatible with most household DVD players (that don't cost a fortune) or Plasma/LED etc TVs as they stand.

AVI files often seem OK with many household gear, but even with AVI then it sometimes comes up with the "Not supported" message on the film or audio ...

Thai Windows

A friend of mine has just bought his first pc - one of those Sony laptops.

It seems the shop that sold it to him installed a Thai language version of Windows. It's easy to switch between languages for applications but he can't find any way to switch to English for Windows itself. It's been a few years since I had to wrestle with the idiosyncrasies of Mr. Gates' brainchild so I've not been able ...

Cleaning/defrag PC too often

My desktop is about 5 years old, but over the last 6 months I have found that I'm forever cleaning out junk files and having to defrag it almost everyday. For example, going on the net for a bit/playing music/printing out something etc and not doing anything out of the norm really seems to create about 200 Mb of junk twice a day which I delete with 'CCleaner' application. If I don't then it slows ...
