Donkey and Furry

Donkey and Furry. That's what they are called, my two new neighbours: little black, furry, four legged animals that will live no more than two months - three tops. Puppies. My neighbour has two new puppies. They have been named Donkey and Furry. Unless my memory is failing me, that is the third puppy my neighbours have called Donkey in the last two years. And for some reason the puppies always come in pairs. This ...

I reckon Thailandstories is okay for some fun stuff

This local website, Thailandstories, is a good place for interesting titbits - book previews, articles, funny musings and more. It's even got an excerpt from my new book. Here: http://ping.fm/33yjp

Stuff we take for granted

When I built my house I raised the site about a meter and a half above the road. This of course means that my driveway slopes down to the street. In the evenings ever since we moved in this has been a popular gathering place for the village women and their kids. I never thought much about it even though my wife isn't into gossip much (I'm thinking she's not really Thai) but it seems ...

Re: Snooker legend Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins dies at 61

If you looked at the last photo of Alex, you probably felt shocked, like me. His passing marks the end of the era in snooker when you followed the stars for the fun, rather than watch the match. RIP, Alex.

The low rent scum robbers are back.

There have been 4 farang houses around me robbed in the last 10 days, 3 of them with the owners at home. I know this to be fact.
Now I am being told that early yesterday afternoon 2 slime balls entered a farang's home in Makha, immediately killed his wife then drove him around at gun point to numerous ATM's forcing him to withdraw his money. When he was finished they took him home and ...

Big new 'Home Pro' on by-pass

Was driving back into Korat along the by-pass road and was past the two 7-11 Parks on either side of the dual highway, just before the bridge takes you up and that big new building that's being built on the left has erected a tall sign with the 'Home Pro' logo at the top, so looks like we are going to get a dedicated proper big 'Home Pro' here, not just the crap that is ...

Sky At Night

Over to the west, after the sun has set, I can see two bright lights very close together. One is a little brighter than the other. When the air is clear and light pollution low, I fancy that I can make out a third, very feint, light, just below them. There is no shimmer and the two lights are, in any case, two bright to be stars. They follow the same path so they are ...
