Things have improved a little for the people of Pak Thong Chai and surrounding villages.
The flood level is said to have gone down by half a metre but that's not enough to make any real difference. The police and navy have appeared on the streets along side the army. Big trucks have arrived to supplement the inadequate fleet of small boats. A free medical centre and kitchen have been set up and more food is reaching people still in the flood area.
The storms are lighter and less frequent at the moment but the run off will continue for some time. There is still the possibility of more releases of water fro the reservoirs.

But it's still very grim. Here are some picture taken from the top of an army truck. Even that couldn't reach much of the town centre.

And this is what people have to put up with still. It's the road from the bypass to Pak Thong Chai's market area:

That all looks pretty grim, while Bangkok is fairly dry. I keep getting alarming alerts about a promise of flooding where I am. But nadda so far.
On twitter there was a mention going around about the countryside being flooded to save Bangkok's malls. I don't have a clue how true that is this time, but it has been done before.
That may be true because there's a lot of water up north that heads to BKK. In Isaan there's no such excuse.
